As we witness this separation of families along the U.S.-Mexico border we must remember that children, no matter where they come from, are children first. 

The family is the most valuable unit of society – it is sacred. Our families help us feel safe and accepted and it is where children are molded into responsible adults. Families lay the foundation that will influence the course of a child’s life.

Separating families is simply not acceptable.  It is NOT who we are as a NATION and as a People. 

The stories we hear are heartbreaking; the images we see are horrible.  The United States is a nation of immigrants.  People migrate to the United States for a better life, for a better opportunity, for freedom. 

We are GOOD PEOPLE – we must remember that.  Children on the other side of the border are no different than our own children here at home. They NEED their parents and their families – just like our kids need their parents and their families.

AAMA believes in Strong Families and Strong Communities. We stand strong alongside these families who are being separated, to assure they are united again and kept together. It’s the right thing to do.
