No, except for special education, bilingual/ESL and Pre-k positions, a certification is not required in order to be hired but we want you to receive your certification within one year of being hired. You will need to take and pass a content test prior to the first day of the school year to be eligible to begin your teaching assignment.

187 days.  Our school year begins in August and usually goes until the first week of June. All employees generally have a week of leave for Thanksgiving, two weeks of Winter Break, and a week off for Spring Break. In addition, staff members receive certain federal and state holidays. Yes, campuses offer stipends to teachers who take on additional responsibilities on their campuses, such as serving as a Department Chair or coaching a sport. These are campus-by-campus decisions, and the school principal can answer questions you have about stipend opportunities.
Yes, a common lesson planning template is used for all teachers.
We don’t have one specific curriculum. Various research based and state textbook adoptions aligned to TEKS

  • Differentiated instruction for sub-pops, small groups and tutorials

Excellent instruction every single day is created through four things:

  1. Thoughtful lesson planning;
  2. Safe and nurturing environment;
  3. Solid grading practices;
  4. And high touch-point coaching.

 Our lesson planning template was created to reflect the research-based elements of effective planning. The posting of lesson plans is a requirement every single day.

AAMA Benefits

AAMA offers a variety of employee benefits depending on work status.
 

Medical Plan

AAMA pays 75% of Employee Only medical premiums and between 50% and 60% of all other tiers. Our plan year is September through August.

Retirement Savings

All full time AAMA employees can take advantage of retirement savings through a personal retirement plan (403b). By setting up your account you can conveniently defer payroll dollars tax free. In addition to this, all school employees who regularly work 20 hours weekly or more are members of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS).

Vacation

All full time school employees accrue five days of sick leave and five days of vacation leave per school year in addition to time off at Thanksgiving, Christmas, a week at Spring break and a time off during the summer depending on the school calendar. All other employees receive 11 paid holidays, accrue up to 12 sick days per calendar year and accrue vacation based on years of service.
